The 1st team are in a dismal run of form and have slipped into 5th position after such a promising start. They aim to bounce back to winning ways when they visit Seamer on July 31st. The 2nd team have had the reverse results, and find themselves 2nd in the table after a strong run of results.
An excellent weekend of cricket for Kirkbymoorisde saw the first team return to pole position in the Premier Division. Flixton 2nds batted first at Kirkbymoorside and at tea were 141 – 9 after their 45 overs, G Hill having scored 29 and P Hill 54, the pick of the bowlers being M Charlton 4-38 and SWalker 3-21. Replying the visitors looked favourite to pick up their first victory of the season until a 7th wicket partnership of 45 between R Featherstone and number 8 P Charlton 39 took the match back in Kirkby’s favour. A gigantic six from Featherstone took his score to 30 and did ensure a home victory by 3 wickets, JSowden having claimed 3-31 from his 5 over spell, the result taking the Moorsiders back to the top of the League
Cloughton found themselves taking tea having been dismissed for 120 on their own pitch against Kirkbymoorside, for whom J Clarke claimed 3-19 and D Jeminson 4-40 with only P Virr 33 threatening a more challenging total. In reply J Robson hit 37 before undefeated knocks from A Marley 45 and M Charlton 30 took Kirkby to a seven wicket victory.
Kirkbymoorside were soundly beaten by Staithes on their own ground, with the visitors leapfrogging the hosts to go top of the Premier Division. Batting first, Kirkbymoorside posted a criditble 201-9 with contributions coming from A Marley 35 and A Bayes 46. In reply, Kirkbymoorside bowled poorly allowing Staithes to knock off the runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Star performer for Staithes was C Barritt who scored an undeafeted 120 to ease them to visctory.
J Robson helped ensure Kirkbymoorside retained top place with 116 against Flixton 2nds. Partnering AMarley 75, the opening pair put together a partnership of 173 and with D Gardner adding 52 and R Featherstone 35 Kirkby rattled up a formidable 292 – 6. The home team managed a final reply of 172 – 8 mainly due to spinner D Jeminson creating problems taking 5-69.
An excellent weekend of cricket in Kirkbymoorside saw the first team beat Staxton by 55 runs and collect 19 points which was enough to see them leapfrog Staithes and go top of the Premier Division. J Robson scored 44 but it was a crucial last wicket partnership of 30 between D Jeminson and S Trousdale which really helped the Kirkby cause. In the field D Gardner, S Walker (3-59) and D Jeminson (7-60) bowled superbly to limit the Staxton side to 136 all out, which saw Kirkbymoorside celebrate victory!
Both sides recorded comprehensive victories again this season, with the first team beating Forge Valley by 7 wickets. Bowling first and with some relays due to rain, Kirkbymoorside restricted the East Ayton team to 117-7 from 39 overs, D Jeminson taking 4-40. In reply, Kirkbymoorisde knocked the runs off inside 20 overs thanks to fine Knocks from J Robson 38 and G Pritchard 58 not out. The seconds also recorded a comfortable win, beating Thornton le Dale by 137 runs. Batting first, Kirkby broke the 200 run mark for the first time this season thanks to P Butler 32, J Harper 65 and M Butler 42*. The visitors had no reply to the pace bowling of K Richardson whose spell of 7-17 included 5 wickets in 5 balls.
Another weekend with both sides recording comprehensive victories. The first eleven beat struggling Flamborough by 3 wickets after bowling them out for 140. The wickets were shared equally between S Walker, J Clark and D Jeminson and if not for a 59 run 7th wicket partnership the total may not have reached three figures. In reply, Kirkby lost 2 early wickets but an aggressive 72 by D Gardner and an unbeaten 23 from R Featherstone saw kirkby home with 25 overs to spare. The seconds bowled out Muston for 63 and wasted no time knocking off the runs to solidy their top 4 position in the table.
A close victory versus Seamer sees Kirkby rise to 3rd in the league. Batting first KMS looked in trouble at 50-5 but useful knocks from A BAyes 46* and A Marley 31 allowed a total of 159 to be reached. In reply, Seamer were limited to 128-9 afetr their 45 overs, S Walker impressing with 6-40 from 19 overs. The 2nd XI lost at Cayton, but continued to show signs of improvement having posted a competitive 147, K Richardson scoring 43. Cayton knocked off the runs with 3 overs to spare for the loss of 6 wickets.
In the League Cup, Kirkbymoorside visited Scalby on Monday night and came away with a 9 run victory. Batting first, Kirkby scored 110-6 with J Griffin scoring 44 runs. In reply, the Scalby innings ended on 101-9 with J Griffin taking 4 wickets and H Richardson taking 3 wickets.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, the first eleven put in an excellent performance limiting the hosts to 121-9, D Jeminson taking an impressive 7-48. In reply, Kirkby struggled to score runs at any sort of race and lost regular wickets, eventually being bowled out for just 85. The 2nds picked up their second consecutive win to start the season with a close faught win over Sewerby by 8 runs, H Nicol taking 4 wickets for 18 runs.
The opening week of the cricket season saw impressive victories for both the 1st and 2nd team. The first team lost the toss and bowled first against 10 man Foords. An early breakthrough was made by Jeminson, although Foords were able to quickly recover. Wickets fell steadilly; Walker collecting 5-50 and making a smart run out, and Foords were all out for 163. M Charlton taking 2 wickets also. Opening batsmen Robson and Marley started brightly and scored runs quickly. The pair passed the 100 run mark in the 21st over and although both lost their wickets in the same over, Kirkby were able to knock the runs off with plenty of time to spare, for the loss of 5 wickets.
The 2nd team were also victorious, beating Wold Newton by 56 runs. Batting first on a damp wicket, Kirkby were all out for 80 runs; Mill scoring 24 and M Butler 18. In reply, Kirkby's bowlers were on song dismissing the home team for just 24 runs. Captain Jefferson and Bumby taking 3 wickets apiece and M Butler claiming 2 wickets.
On Sunday, the 2nd team travelled to Derwent Valley League 1 side Snainton in their Homeguard Cup fixture. Playing a team from 2 divisions above, Kirkby battled well but suffered defeat; being unable to knock off 170 runs. In only their second game the 2nds continued to improve and look forward to next weekend.
Kirkbymoorside's two primary sponsors, Tony Hall Engineer & Marju Construction, have each selected a captain for the club's first sponsors match. D Jeminson will skipper the Marju Construction team, and J Robson will captain the Tony Hall team. More details to follow soon...
Kirkbymoorside travelled to Hutton Rudby on Sunday and emerged with a 40 run win, despite a poor bowling and fielding performance. Batting first, Kirkby were able to post 195 -8 in 35 overs with significant contributions from J Robson, R Featherstone and A Bayes. After tea, Kirkby seemed disinterested and were sloppy in the field but were able to limit the home team to 155 all out, with J Griffin taking 4 wickets on debut. Kirkby 2nd team batsmen M Durrant was able to impress for the home team taking the opportunity to play for Hutton Rudby as they only had 10 men. Durrant finished on 43 not out and showed promise against the 1st team bowling attack.
With only 2 weeks until the season starts, the club is a hive of activitity. A well attended final net session was held on Sunday 11th April at the York Cricket Centre, with attention now turning to next Sunday's friendly at Hutton Rudby, 1pm start. The sportsfield is also undergoing some work, with the nets, covers and sightscreens all receiving some care and attention. The groundstaff are also continuing to work on the square and all at the club hope that it is up to the same standard as last season.
A well attended event was held at the Kings Head, Kirkbymoorside on Saturday November 28th. A delicious 3 course meal was followed by a summary of the season and awards presentation. An excellent season was capped with victory in the Rydale Beckett League Cup as well as finishing 5th in the Scarborough Beckett League Premier Divison, 2nd in the Ryedale Beckett League and Runners Up in the Scarborough Premier Division Cayley Cup.

The Club have decided to enter a 2nd team in the Scarborough Derwent Valley League in the 2010 season. The club hope that the team will provide a platform for younger players at the club to begin Saturday cricket and act as a feeder club to the 1st team. The club are activley looking for new players, both young and old, and are especially keen to hear from players interested in captaining the team.
